English is a central part of the curriculum: children learn not only the various aspects of subject – speaking, reading and writing – but it is also the medium of instruction in all other areas and thus underpins access to those subjects and progression within them.

Children are explicitly taught the grammar of English, and through speaking, reading and writing, explore the subject in its many forms: fiction, non-fiction, poetry and drama. Our aim is that Raynham children leave as confident speakers, readers and writers of English, and with a real interest in the subject.
